Bushfires cut crucial NSW road links

Pacific Motorway closed near Newcastle while trucks warned off Blue Mountains route

Bushfires in New South Wales between Newcastle and Wollongong are affecting important road links.

Fire has closed the Pacific Motorway near Newcastle, with northbound and southbound traffic diverted onto George Booth Drive.

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service says fire is burning in the area of Stockrington Road at Minmi, west of the M1 Motorway and is burning towards Minmi.

Warnings remain for the Great Western Highway between Penrith and Lithgow and heavy vehicle operators and drivers have been warned against going through the Blue Mountains today.

South of Sydney, the Picton Road between the Princes Motorway and the Hume Motorway has been reopened though there are warnings of reduced visibility.
