Centurion takes out WA safety award

Company wins 'Best solution to an identified workplace safety and health issue' category for heavy tyre handling system

October 25, 2013

Western Australian transport and logistics provider Centurion has gained official recognition in the state’s 2013 Work Safety Awards.

One of five winners, Centurion took out the “Best solution to an identified workplace safety and health issue” category for its heavy tyre handling approach.

“Centurion manages and transports more than 5000 heavy mobile equipment tyres weighing up to four tonnes each, and it has successfully developed a specialised tyre trailer,” the citation reads.

“From a safe 30 metres away, a worker can load tyres via the trailer’s sophisticated system of tyre handling equipment and remote-controlled hydraulic arms.”

Category winners now enter the national Safe Work Australia Awards to be decided in April.

Centurion is keen to highlight its safety credentials, reporting in July that it had participated in BP’s Accredited Contractor Program (ACP) and have exceeded the benchmark Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) assessment score, being awarded a High Achievement certificate.
