Trucking firm fined for speed limiter tampering after one of its trucks narrowly escaped a crash in South Australia

A trucking company has been fined for speed limiter tampering after one of its trucks narrowly escaped a crash in South Australia.

The truck was travelling on the South Eastern Freeway near Crafers when it failed to stop due to faults with its brakes and steering wheel.

The driver’s quick thinking saved him from crashing when he used the emergency arrester bed to bring the B-double to a halt.

The heavy vehicle division of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure inspected the truck and discovered brake, steering and speed limiter defects.

The A-trailer was also found with brake defects.

The company, which authorities have declined to name, was issued a fine for breaches of speed limiter and vehicle standards.
