Truckie done for speed limiter tampering again

Truck driver caught for the second time in as many months with a tampered speed limiter

October 22, 2013

The message on speed limiters is failing to get through to some, with a driver issued with a second speed-limiter defect notice in as many months.

New South Wales Police detected the B-double travelling 122km/h on the Hume Highway in the State’s south near Jugiong on October 19.

Police grounded the truck and issued the 55-year-old South Australian driver with an infringement notice for exceeding the heavy vehicle speed limit by more than 20km/h.

The truck was issued with a defect notice for a non-compliant speed limiter. Checks revealed the truck had been booked for the same offence on September 3.

“It’s disappointing that truck owners and drivers still don’t appear to be getting the message that speeding in heavy vehicles is not only extremely dangerous, but against the law,” Acting Superintendent Simon Maund says.

“NSW Police has zero tolerance for this behaviour, and will continue to work with our partner agencies to ensure the heavy-vehicle industry operate safely and lawfully.”

Earlier the same day, police stopped another B-double for driving at a speed of 119km/h. This vehicle was also issued with a defect notice for an alleged non-compliant speed limiter.

Also on the same day, officers caught an 11-tonne rental truck travelling at 126km/h. Police issued the 23-year-old male driver with an infringement notice for exceeding the heavy vehicle speed limit.
