MTAG to hold protest on Somerville Road

Maribyrnong Truck Action Group to stage protest tomorrow to call for trucks to be banned from school zones

There will be traffic disruptions on Somerville Road in Melbourne’s west tomorrow morning as Maribyrnong Truck Action Group (MTAG) members hold a protest.

The protestors will gather outside Kingsville Primary School near the corner of Somerville Road and Bishop Street in Kingsville between 8am and 8.30am to call for a truck ban in school zones.

Police will attend the event to manage traffic when necessary, MTAG says.

It believes trucks should use CityLink instead of local streets when transporting freight to the Port of Melbourne.

Maribyrnong City Council is also pushing for curfew extensions and will be speaking tomorrow at the protest.

MTAG is concerned about the high levels of diesel pollution in the area. It says more than 1,500 children attend schools and kindergarten along Somerville Road.
