Victoria’s highways will be under close watch by police today and tomorrow during the State’s spring racing carnival.

Operation Furlong is in full swing, with officers patrolling all major highways and holiday destination routes.

Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Robert Hill says officers are focusing on speed, drink and drug driving, fatigue and other irresponsible driver behaviours during the Cup Day long weekend.

“The spring carnival, and especially cup weekend, is a time of celebration in Melbourne and we want everyone to enjoy themselves safely,” Hill says.

“Victoria police members will be patrolling the roads and around transport hubs to make sure this happens.”
