Truck drivers have been caught up in a police blitz in South Australia targeting compliance, registration and seatbelt use.

The joint operation known as ‘Shake Up’ involved Holden Hill Police and inspectors from the Transport Safety and Regulation Section and led to 80 heavy vehicles being inspected at a truck stop at Cavan yesterday.

Authorities issued 58 defects for issues including major brake and suspension problems. All but five trucks were required to be cleared at the vehicle inspection station.

"Holden Hill Police will continue to monitor the heavy vehicle industry in light of these disturbing results," a police statement says.

Another 34 notices were issued for vehicle safety breaches, including various traffic offences and failing to comply with vehicle standards.
Three were done for drug driving.

Operation Shake Up ran from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
