A proposal for a truck wash in Mildura in north-west Victoria has been given the green light.

Mildura Council has supported the proposal from livestock selling complex Ouyen Livestock Exchange for a two-bay wash centre to be built on Britt Street in Ouyen.

However, only those trucks delivering livestock will be able to use the facility, the council says.

It also wants the owners to safely discharge effluent into the council’s stormwater system and to keep noise down.

The planning permit was lodged in May and will see up to three trucks washed on non-sale days. Up to 20 trucks will be serviced in peak times.

Seven objections were made by residents who were concerned about odour and noise.

A public forum was held last month.

“It was evident that the main concern of the greater percentage of people attending the session was more concerned with the actual location and operation of the sale yards rather than the proposed development,” the council says.
