VicRoads is about to lodge a proposal asking for a route upgrade in Melbourne’s west.
It is finalising a proposal that includes duplication of Dohertys Road in Laverton and upgrade of five intersections between Fitzgerald Road and Grieve Parade upgraded.
VicRoads Regional Director Patricia Liew says the proposal also includes the installation of traffic lights at the Hume Road intersection.
“Dohertys Road is a key east-west route that connects the Laverton North and Altona North freight hubs,” Liew says.
“The precinct surrounding Dohertys Road is rapidly growing as a prime location for industrial development and freight logistics due to its strategic proximity to the M80 Ring Road, West Gate Freeway and the Port of Melbourne.
“The proposal, which is near completion, will be considered for funding under a future program.”
The area has the highest commercial freight density in the country and is home to 460 businesses that employ more than 30,000 staff.
