RSRT sets March deadline for driver pay applications

Industry asked to have its say on pay rates for truck drivers.

Trucking representatives seeking changes to driver pay rates have been given until late next month to submit their proposals.

The Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal (RSRT), which sets remuneration related conditions throughout the transport industry, today issued an invitation to parties to put forward their submissions by March 20.

The RSRT is yet to rule on whether a set payment structure should be installed. Some parties have previously argued for minimum rates for sub-contractors, while others want cost calculators in place.

RSRT President Jennifer Acton says a hearing will be held on April 4 to deal with the submissions.

The RSRT says there is industry support to require those seeking orders on pay rates to provide their claim and the basis for it to the tribunal and then for the RSRT to conduct a conference between the relevant parties on the claims received.
