Video: Shell Eco-Marathon

Photography by: Matt Wood

Matt Wood visits Manila to check out some of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the world.

The Shell Eco-Marathon is an annual competition in which participants build vehicles with one design goal in mind – fuel efficiency. The Eco-Marathon is not a race, winners are instead chosen based purely on the distance that the vehicles can go before running out of fuel.

These events are run globally, and represent innovations that could prove invaluable for the transport industry.

Matt Wood takes a look at some of the more fantastical designs, and somehow finds himself tumbling around inside a giant hamster ball.

Part 2 of this video, featuring Matt's report on the Shell Progress Forum, will be available shortly.
