Roger Tuxworth finds strength in numbers with Core Logistics
Roger Tuxworth has joined forces with other sub-contractors to pool resources under the banner of Core Logistics.

Roger Tuxworth was out near Roma in south west Queensland when Owner//Driver caught up with him recently.

He had just returned from a run on the Plenty Highway where, along with other subcontractors, he shifted a completions camp 900km over to Argadargada Station in the Northern Territory.

While Roger operates under the company name of Tux Trans, he is also a part of a much larger group known as Core Logistics.

The firm is made up of other sub-contractors, who decided to band together to pool their resources.

"I’ve been an owner-driver for nearly 10 years and about a year ago we were looking at the way work was going. People were saying they would not want to employ a lot of subbies in some parts of the industry because of OH&S and everything. Hence we decided to have a go," Roger says.

"We came together, chipped in some money and got all our own OH&S done and a heap of compliances.

"Now we can go straight to a customer and quote on work with some resources behind us."

There are now 40 trucks on the books that are all compliant and that Core, which is based in Brisbane, can call on.

Roger says Core director Bob Kellaway was one of the main driving forces, while Roger and another director, Geoff Silcock, ensure that everything runs smoothly.

"We do anything from small single trailer loads, small jobs right up to 30-plus trucks," Roger says.

"The idea was to get blokes that are interested and want to put in the effort and hopefully reap the same rewards that they do by pooling resources."

Roger says that as Core gains momentum, it will look at the bulk purchasing of tyres and fuel. It sees the opportunity to set-up a yard in the not-too-distant future.

"We are very versatile and a lot of our work is in the outback, Queensland and NT," he says.
