New Darwin transport hub for Northline by August

Construction begins on new $27 million transport and logistics facility in the Northern Territory.

Construction has started on freight operator Northline’s new $27 million transport hub in the Northern Territory.

The transport and logistics facility is being built at East Arm industrial precinct in Darwin and is due to be completed in August to provide Northline with easier access to sea, road and rail connections.

The site will provide more than 14,500 square meters of warehousing and freight operations – an increase of 5,600sqm over the existing distribution centre – and a full-service workshop for Northline’s fleet.

“The distribution centre’s location with sea, road and rail links located conveniently nearby, along with the improved efficiencies of the new facility, will be of significant benefit to our customers, improving our service offering and reducing turnaround times,” Northline CEO Craige Whitton says.

“Darwin is the gateway to Asia and Northline’s new East Arm location, in close proximity to the East Arm Wharf, will greatly increase the efficiency of our international freight service.

“The full-service workshop with on-site maintenance capability will improve the effectiveness of our fleet, while the increase in under roof freight and warehousing provides weatherproof security and peace of mind for our customers.

The Darwin facility marks the third new distribution centre Northline has built in two years, and Whitton says it demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to the NT.

Northline, which began life in 1983, has 13 branches across Australia.

It specialises in road and freight management services, warehousing and distribution, freight forwarding and logistics.
