New truck permit arrangements for Tasmania in 2016

Most common heavy vehicle routes set to be permit-free from January 1.

Tasmania’s transition back to an oversize and over-mass permit system overseen by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) will begin from January 1 next year.

Transport Tasmania says new arrangements will apply from the new year, with existing permits expiring when the calendar ticks over into 2016.

In their place, Tasmania will have a dedicated network of approved roads that can be accessed without a permit.

The map has been developed in close collaboration with local councils and industry, with Transport Tasmania saying it will cover the vast majority of heavy vehicle movements in the state.

The new arrangements will mean heavy vehicle operators will also need access to a reference vehicle guide.

This document works in conjunction with the route network map to highlight permitted road networks for each type of vehicle.

Information sessions are still being conducted in centres around the state.

The remaining events are scheduled for Ulverstone in the morning and afternoon of October 28, and a single afternoon session in Campbell Town on October 29.
