The small number of issues found at an inspection at a NSW distribution centre has been seen as an improvement

As part of Operation StateTrans, the NSW joint taskforce of police and traffic authorities have conducted a compliance operation at a Warnervale distribution centre with ‘positive results’.

The operation, which took place on Friday morning, involved the inspection of 96 trucks and trailers and 54 drug and breath tests.

According to the authorities, no positive results were found from the tests, three trucks were found to be defected, and seven infringements were issued for load restraint, work diary, and registration label offences.

When it came to engine control modules, two of the five were found to be non-compliant.

"Given the numbers of trucks & trailers inspected, compared to the non-compliance identified, this is a pleasing result," Traffic & Highway Patrol Command assistant commissioner John Hartley says.

Hartley says it "highlights … just how much of an impact the Joint Traffic Taskforce has had on heavy vehicle compliance, which is a major benefit for all road users."

The assistant commissioner says while enforcement is a "major focus", the taskforce "will continue to work with drivers, operators, loaders, and the broader industry to ensure compliance."

"A safer industry leads to safer roads, safer for everyone," Hartley says.

The positive sentiment was backed by Roads and Maritime Services general manager of compliance operations Paul Endycott, who says "when major players in industry drive safety and compliance, productivity and road safety are the winners."

"We have moved our operations into regional areas, while there is still work to be done, this operation showed a marked improvement in heavy vehicle compliance, much better than what we have been finding in distribution centres of late," he says.

Operation StateTrans has been running across May with mixed results
