NHVR permit applications to go on-line

Permit approvals are set to be a streamlined when the NHVR officially releases its on-line AccessCONNECT application system

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has commenced the rollout of a new Customer Portal for access permits. Already it claims to have hundreds of heavy vehicle operators currently trialling the system.

AccessCONNECT executive director David Carlisle says the staged rollout of the system was proving successful.

“We now have over 300 customers on-line submitting permit requests and already the system is handling almost 15 per cent of the total NHVR applications,” Carlisle says.

He states that more than 1,000 businesses have asked to be involved in the early release, with the NHVR looking to bring additional customers on board in July ahead of a full rollout later this year.”

Transport companies already embracing the new Customer Portal include Russell Transport and McCulloch Bulk Haulage.

The NHVR says the new Customer Portal will deliver national consistency for permit applications, improved transparency of processing activity and reduced time and effort for operators.

Already it claims to see the continuance of a growing number of permit applications with almost 20,000 applications in the past 12 months.

Carlisle says the staged rollout had allowed the NHVR to get valuable feedback and make sure they were ready for the increased volumes of applications through the service.

“We’re reviewing the feedback daily and making adjustments to ensure the Portal works well,” he says.

“This has been the outcome of several months of effort and we are excited to see the first part of the improved online permit solution being used rolled out to industry.”

The Customer Portal works on a select and click interface for various vehicle configurations. Applicants are also able to view the progress of their application.

The introduction of the new AccessCONNECT Customer Portal will eventually see the phasing out of handwritten, fax and email permit applications.
