Gauging the state of the nation’s truck fleet seen in positive light so far
The National Roadworthiness Baseline Survey (NRBS), one of the biggest such efforts ever attempted, is more than 20 per cent complete.
And the organisation driving it, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR), is pleased with the progress 10 days into the two-month campaign.
“As at August 5, the NHVR has inspected 1,961 vehicles at various locations nationally and are on track to complete the required 9,000 vehicle sample,” NHVR director of safety Dan Elkins says.
“Industry and our jurisdiction partners have both been positive about how the survey is progressing.
“The NHVR is confident that the survey will deliver a national snapshot of the health of the heavy vehicle fleet providing value to the NHVR, jurisdictions and industry.”
After being flagged to the industry earlier in the year as part of the National Heavy Vehicle Roadworthiness Program, the NRBS was officially launched at the ComVec conference in July and kicked off at the start of August.
“This snapshot of the fleet’s condition will identify factors that increase the risk of incidents, assist to develop a national risk-based inspection approach and identify high-risk components, systems, vehicles or operators.” NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto said at the time.
