Caravanner callout: We can whinge all we like, but it takes someone to do something

Ken Wilson is a caravanner with a unique solution to the age-old tension between truckies and ‘grey nomads’.

He’s developed a pilot program called Truck Friendly, which addresses the concerns that both truck drivers and caravanners have with one another.

For more than two years Ken has been seeking funding to print and distribute informational books and stickers.

The concept behind the program is that carvanners take the Truck Friendly course and then place the sticker on the back of their caravan to let truckies know they’re ‘truck trained’.

“I have a road safety program called ‘Truck Friendly’ which addresses this very issue and other concerns truck drivers have with caravanners,” Ken told Owner//Driver.

“However I have for two years been looking for funding to print and distribute the booklets and stickers.

“The program has large circular stickers on the back of caravans and RV’s to let truckies know that the caravan owner knows how to work with truck drivers on the roads and has a UHF switched on and on 40 to communicate.”

A lack of funding is stalling the project, Ken explains, and while he’s received some money to get the ball rolling, he’s hit a financial road block.

“As I am a private citizen and not a not-for-profit organisation I cannot get Government funding.

“CIL Insurance has given some money to get it to this stage but I can’t afford the $20,000 printing cost of the booklets and stickers.”

Ken has one simple message and the reason behind his program: “We can whinge all we like but it takes someone to do something before the problem is fixed!”

Ken urges individuals or organisations wanting to get involved to contact him on 0429944663 or future.toy@bigpond.com
