A company was fined $90,000 after allowing a truck to go out 15 tonnes overweight
Victoria has pledged to crack down on oversized and overweight vehicles after a company was fined one of the heaviest penalties handed down in recent years.
The state’s transport authority released a statement this morning noting the prosecution last month of the company behind an overheight and overweight vehicle intercepted near the Port of Melbourne in late 2017.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court fined the company $90,000, with VicRoads manager of transport safety services Russell Greenland saying the breaches were a danger to other drivers.
“This vehicle was over length and was carrying more than 15 tonnes of extra weight than the maximum allowed,” he says.
“It’s our responsibility to educate drivers on the dangers of oversized, overweight and unsecured loads and stop this behaviour from happening.”
On average, VicRoads Transport Safety Services team issue 232 infringements for non-compliant drivers and defect 227 trucks per month throughout Victoria.
The offences include unsecured loads, unlicensed drivers, overheight and overweight vehicles and a range of other offences.
