Hay runner cops $10k fine

A company running hay to Queensland farmers has been slogged with a $10,000 fine

It has been reported that the director of PK’s Truckwise parent company Norseve Pty Ltd, Peter Kenneth Lewis, pleaded guilty on behalf of the company to four charges relating to a b-double carrying hay in Queensland.

According to news reports, the Department of Main Roads and Transport prosecutor Anthony Louden said the b-double was intercepted on June 25 travelling from Paget to Childers.

He said that the load was 2.61m wide on the first trailer and 2.69m wide on the second, exceeding the 2.5m limit.

It was also outlined that the gates were incorrectly fitted and the curtains were bulging.

According to reports, the defence laywer for Lewis explained that his client thought the Queensland hay limits were the same as New South Wales with its Class 3 Drought Assistance Dimension Exemption Notice.

The exemption notice in New South Wales allows eligible vehicles transporting hay to travel under notice and without a permit – including B-doubles up to 26 metres long – to the maximum height on the approved 4.6 metre high network and up to 2.83 metres wide on all other approved roads.
