NSW Police completes new round of Operation Impact

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command reports one positive drug test and numerous breaches from 152 interceptions

 

NSW Police’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command conducted another Operation Impact blitz for five days between November 5 and 9, “targeting speed, alcohol and drug use, fatigue and vehicle safety”.

Seven traffic task force officers were deployed to the Manning Great Lakes area, with Roads and Maritime Services inspectors from the Jones Island Heavy Vehicle Inspection Station also partaking in three of the five days of the operation.  

A reported 152 heavy and light vehicles were intercepted. All 152 drivers had breath tests conducted, with a further 96 drug tested. Findings included:

  • One positive result for cocaine on a light truck driver from Shelly Beach
  • 18 traffic infringements issued for a variety of heavy vehicle diary offences, load and dimension breaches
  • 16 traffic infringements issued to light vehicles for speeding offences
  • Six defect notices issued for a range of mechanical issues
  • 12 engine control module downloads were conducted, with one found to be non-compliant, resulting in a defect and compliance notice being issued
  • Five charges were preferred with one disqualified, three suspended (one Taree woman was stopped twice in two days), and a severe hours breach identified.

A broken-down tipper and dog that blocked all southbound lanes around Pennant Hills and Carlingford Roads in Carlingford was inspected, with early indications being that defects and weight issues existed with the combination – action is pending on further results.

Police also had to tend to a semi-trailer from Thorton that had rolled over at Bobs Creek.
