HVIA launches body fit and compliance course

Training day to fast-track heavy vehicle modification and regulation knowledge

HVIA is launching a course that provides an overview of vehicle regulation in Australia with an emphasis on heavy vehicle modifications – in particular, fundamental technical aspects of fitting bodies and equipment to trucks and trailers.

To be held in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, the aim of the training day is to give a basic understanding of some common heavy vehicle modifications (particularly body fit) and the legal framework around vehicle regulation in Australia.

Partnering with engineering consultancy firm Smedley’s Engineers, it is predominantly aimed at those who are new in the industry or have minimal exposure to vehicle modifications, and would like to have a better understanding of regulations covering heavy vehicles, key considerations in truck and trailer body fit and the certification process these modifications must follow.

HVIA’s chief technical officer Paul Caus, who will co-present the course alongside Smedley’s Jackson Heil, says it is an invaluable way to fast-track knowledge that can usually only be obtained from years of on-the-job experience.

“From this one-day course attendees will be understand the certification and approval process of getting a heavy vehicle onto the road and basic concepts of fitting bodies on a cab chassis,” Caus says.

“If you’ve only recently started out buying, selling, modifying or managing heavy vehicles, or work in an organisation that does, we will help you understand the big picture around heavy vehicle regulation, and the fitting of bodies and other equipment on trucks.”
