SelecTrucks recently celebrated an important milestone: selling its 10,000th used truck. Not bad in just over 20 years of operation! And the dealership group decided to mark the occasion with a special build of a Coronado 122 that would become known as ‘BOB’ – short for Big Orange Beast.

Unlike its previous rebuild – ‘Big Red’, a 1982 FLC evaluation truck restored by the talented team at SelecTrucks and offered as a long-term loan to the Australian Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs – this special project truck is actually available for sale. But more on that later…

If this commemorative truck is not to your liking, SelecTrucks also has many examples of the Freightliner Coronado for sale at its two locations: Somerton to Melbourne’s north; and Huntingwood in Sydney’s west.

With a reputation for selling quality used trucks, SelecTrucks was created by Daimler Trucks in order to provide customers with premium used vehicles mostly from its own brands, which includes Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso. It also helped Daimler Trucks move on some of its trucks that come back from lease programs as well as customer trade-ins.

Many of these vehicles have been under full maintenance programs, which means they have been looked after by the Daimler Trucks network. This is especially important because the trucks have been maintained by the people who build them and sell them and know the products inside and out. SelecTrucks also gives customers the added peace of mind of a three-month driveline warranty on selected used vehicles.

The Huntingwood SelecTrucks dealership is located within the same site as the Daimler Trucks Huntingwood site, while the Somerton facility is SelecTrucks super site sits on three acres next to the Daimler Trucks Somerton site.

Across the two sites there are no fewer than 200 trucks to choose from, so they are bound to have a rig that suits you and your budget.

SelecTrucks is an especially good place to check out Mercedes-Benz prime movers as well as some of the best trucks from Fuso’s heavy truck range and the Freightliner stable – including the spacious and versatile Argosy cab-over model that has been a popular truck on Australian roads. There are also models available from brands including Mack, Kenworth, Hino, Scania and Isuzu.

Or if you’re after something a little bit special, there’s ‘BOB’, a road train-configured Coronado 122 with a 58-inch cabin complete with a full custom interior for optimum driver comfort, including a Waeco fridge and a Sleepair diesel bunk cooler.

It also features stunning exhaust stacks, a gleaming stainless steel Texas bumper and flash wheel guards.

But the number one drawcard is that beautiful orange three-stage pearlescent paint job that makes this special rig the centre of attention.

The Coronado 122, which has 580,000km on the clock, features the reliable DD15 engine that generates a handy 560hp (418kW) and 1,850lb-ft (2,508Nm) of torque and feeds its power through an 18-speed Eaton manual.

It sits on Meritor front and rear axles and taper leaf front suspension and Neway AD246 road-friendly air suspension.
