Horn and Brew fly the flag on Queen’s Birthday for transport and logistics
Trucking, not to mention the broader transport and logistics sector, has a lean year this time around in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Those that were named had their most prominent years around or before the turn of the century in New South Wales, though being no less worthy recipients for that.
Newcastle’s Jeffrey Horn, of Horns Transport gains a Medal (OAM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia, for service to the road freight transport industry.

Newcastle Industrial Heritage Association (NIHA), in its history section, Hunter Transport, notes that Horns Transport won the environmental award in 1994, and 1996 when it was awarded the NSW Road Transport Association Master Carriers of the Year, also winning their Environmental Excellence Award.
According to local news reports, Horn, 72, who sold the company in 1999, was surprised by the nomination and the source of it is unknown.
Meanwhile, added to the list of Member (AM) in the General Division is former chief executive of the State Rail Authority of NSW John Brew, who reviewed the national industry in the 1990s, for service to the rail transport and logistics industry, and to education.
