NSW asks operators to log Covid-safe compliance

Renewed virus concerns prompt doubling down on health and hygiene

New South Wales freight operators are being advised to download pandemic risk-management guidance materials and subsequently register as a Covid-safe businesses.

The state government flags new materials have been specifically created for non-customer facing businesses, to ensure everyone has access to industry specific, practical guidance to prevent the spread of the virus.

The transport and freight plan can be tailored to variables such as how many people are needed to assist with deliveries, numbers of passengers and where points of contact occur.

Businesses can download a Covid-19 Safety plan and register as a Covid-safe business.

“80,000 businesses have already downloaded the NSW Government’s ‘COVID Safety Plans’, and we’ve now created additional resources for transport, freight and ride shares, offices, construction sites, and manufacturing premises,” NSW Minister for Better Regulation Kevin Anderson says.

Why getting operations back underway needs detailed preparation

The guidance materials include practical advice on how transport freight and rideshare businesses can prevent the spread of Covid-19, such as:

  • limiting the numbers of personnel
  • wiping down frequently touched surfaces including door handles, payment devices and seatbelts
  • requesting the customer to handle their own delivery
  • using gloves and/or hand sanitiser when loading or unloading deliveries.

“Ultimately we want to focus on getting NSW’s economy back up and running and providing businesses with the right guidance to operate safely and successfully in the current climate,” Anderson says.

“I encourage every business to jump online and download these simple yet powerful tools to map out a safe way back to business that puts customers and workers front and center.”
