Live training with HVIA Learning Management System

Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia commits to Industry's next generation workforce with comprehensive training package

Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia’s online Learning Management System (LMS) is now live, the industry organisation reveals.

LMS is aimed at providing a comprehensive training package for new entrants to the industry, staff in back-of-house or non-technical roles, and industry stakeholder organisations.

“Heavy Vehicles 101 (HV101) serves as both an induction and an initiation, providing participants with a practical overview of the scope of Australia’s heavy vehicle industry, types and uses of heavy vehicles, common terminology and how heavy vehicles are regulated in Australia,” HVIA says.

Its investment is part of the organisation’s commitment to the industry’s next generation workforce.

“We believe this landmark training package will give new industry starters an unheralded amount of information about the broader industry,” HVIA chief executive Todd Hacking says.

“We hope it will become part of every HVIA members’ induction process and provides an ongoing learning opportunity for key staff.

“I thank the HVIA members who have already supported this initiative through pictures, content and in some cases allowing their staff to pilot the program over the last few weeks.”

One of those pilots was CMV Truck & Bus technical training manager Tom Blumson-Thiele, who joins a number of those backing the course.

“I think even people in admin roles who have been in the industry for a number of years would benefit from this course,” Blumson-Thiele says.

Scania Australia parts advisor Gavin McHugh sees the course as of good length and easy to work with.

“The information within the course will benefit both new starters to the industry and people who may have come from a different background within the industry like myself,” McHugh says.

Tracey Saines-Casey is executive manager for people, culture, compliance, manufacturing at Barker Trailers and she also gives it the thumbs-up.

“Well done,” Saines-Casey says.

“This will be a great resource to use for new employees to assist with onboarding into our business – regardless of their role!”

Hacking adds that the course has been packaged to provide a valuable and affordable training resource.

“We now look to re-formatting our existing face-to-face courses into the online LMS, which will ensure we can provide educational content at a fraction of the existing price, but more importantly the content can be done by staff at their convenience and at work, meaning no lost time off-site,” he says.

“Our ability to deliver content is limitless and we will be looking to our members for advice on other short courses that are needed to ensure we raise the bar of the industry in an efficient, affordable, flexible way.”
