Regulator spruiks AFM for driver flexibility

NHVR Fatigue Choices webinars part of National Road Safety Week

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) highlights Advanced Fatigue Management (AFM) as a pathway to flexibility for drivers with work and rest limits.

The national regulator underlines that the release of the final two booklets in the AFM series and two Fatigue Choices webinars can assist operators to make the most of existing fatigue laws.

“Applying for AFM should not have to be a difficult process,” NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto says.

“The NHVR will continue to work with industry to streamline this process to ensure the focus is on improving safety measures.

“NHVR will host two webinars this week, as part of 2020 National Road Safety Week with operators across Australia able to hear about the work and rest hour options available.

“Fatigue Choices is about helping drivers and operators to understand and gain access to the flexibility that is available.”

WHAT PRICE AFM?

The NHVR has released four AFM booklets – including an Advanced Fatigue Management Workbook – to assist operators to breakdown the components of an AFM application.

NHVR is to focus on fatigue during 2020 National Road Safety Week, which runs from November 15-22.

“Fatigue and distraction are two of the biggest safety challenges for heavy vehicle drivers and operators,” Petroccitto says.

“You can get involved by keeping an eye on our social media channels, provide feedback to our team at a roadside information day, or join one of our fatigue webinars.

“Let’s talk fatigue and help saves lives this National Road Safety Week.”

The Fatigue Choices Webinar: Fatigue flexibility made easy is tomorrow and the Fatigue Choices Webinar: What’s next in fatigue management? is on Thursday.
