The distribution partnership between major OEMs Isuzu and UD Trucks has taken a new turn in East Africa, with the two brands entering into a new-look agreement.
The agreement will see Isuzu East Africa (IEA) and UD Trucks strike a deal in Kenya that sees IEA become the first group company to handle both Isuzu and UD Trucks branded vehicles.
It’s a change for the world’s heavy vehicle market, with Isuzu Motors owning the UD brand in Australia despite it being tied to Volvo’s portfolio.

In 2021, Isuzu Motors acquired UD Trucks from Volvo Group, forming a strategic partnership to create a stronger heavy-duty truck business.
In east Africa, Isuzu Group will leverage its technology and development capabilities through its new UD Trucks partnership, looking to boost its global sales and aftersales network in the region.
On top of this, a stronger brand presence for both parties could provide attractive products to a broader customer base, transforming Isuzu and UD into a commercial mobility solutions company rather than just a truck OEM.
