Mack delivers Wacol milestone truck to MLG

The 80,000th Wacol-built truck has gone out west, with Mack reaching the special milestone for the wider Volvo Group

Mack Trucks Australia has revealed it has reached a manufacturing milestone in Australia, delivering its 80,000th Wacol-built truck.

The special delivery went to Western Australian based mining logistics giant MLG, with the trucks adding to the MLG fleet that already has more than 50 per cent of its 140 strong fleet being Mack vehicles.

The truck is a 300-tonne rated 685hp Mack Titan that will work in MLG’s bulk haulage fleet in WA and the Northern Territory.

“We’re very proud of the partnership with MLG which exemplifies the application excellence achievable through local manufacturing,” Mack Trucks Australia acting vice president Darren Cowan says.

“Engineering trucks that are 100 per cent customisable ensures that every Mack truck is completely fit for task; in this case, tackling the challenges of operating high GCM road trains in remote parts of Australia.”

MLG took delivery of its first Mack in a 170-tonne rated Titan from Truck Centre WA back in 2014, with this maiden model still part of the fleet.

The trucks now operate anywhere between 50 and 150 kilometres at weights of 200 to 300 tonnes, delivering predominantly ore from open pit to operating plants.

The delivery is a major moment for Volvo Group’s production facility in Wacol, which has been part of Australia’s transport industry for 52 years, employing more than 700 staff.

“The culture of Volvo Group is one of pride and passion; we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to acknowledge our engineers and technicians for their contribution in achieving this incredible milestone,” Volvo Group Australia president and CEO Martin Merrick says.
