December 9, 2010

The Federal Government says motorists and truck drivers will benefit from an upgrade to the Bruce Highway in North Queensland which was completed today.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese says the $3 million strengthening and resurfacing works on 4km of highway south of Mackay at Koumala will provide safer and smoother driving for the 3300 motorists using the route.

Acting Queensland Main Roads Minister Rachel Nolan says the project is good news for local and through traffic.

“The Bruce Highway is a key coastal transport corridor in northern Queensland and links a number of major cities across the state,” Nolan says.
