Minus 1 cuts the ribbon on first Sydney depot and cold storage space

The growing refrigerated transport operator has officially unveiled the latest stage of its “bold and aggressive” growth strategy

Australian refrigerated transport operator Minus 1 Refrigerated Transport has announced the opening of its first Sydney facility.

The state-of-the-art cold storage offering is located at 1-3 Zeleny Road, Minchinbury, with facility being paired with the operator’s first transport depot in New South Wales.

The land was purchased, developed and sold in 2023 by Minus 1 CEO and managing director Billy Barba, along with Paul Barber of Barber Property Group, on behalf of BSQD Property Group.

The opening was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 21, signalling Minus 1’s bold and aggressive growth strategy.

“The opening marks a new phase of rapid growth for the business, one that offers our 750 plus customers the end-to-end service of not just transport, but storage also,” Billy Barba says.

“This is the future of logistics and we’re here to be one of the country’s biggest and best players.

“We recognised we needed to diversify our service offering given the volatility in the road transport sector. It was clear we needed to support our people with the right infrastructure and transition from a transport- only offering into a fully integrated, refrigerated logistics business.”

As a second-generation family business coming from humble beginnings, Barba says the company’s background has always been an anchor needed to propel the group into its next phase of growth.

“This phase involves purchasing more infrastructure across the country, investing in tech and being led by the passionate people who belong to our 300 strong workforce,” he says.

“The opening event last Friday night was a celebration which included new and old customers, staff and friends and family of the business. It was an opportunity to say thank you to the people who made this project possible and to showcase all that the facility has to offer.”

The 20,000sqm facility houses more than 15,000 pallet spaces across frozen, chilled and confectionary chambers, 19 recessed loading docks and its own truck workshop.

The depot will see over 11,000 tonne of stock cross the warehouse floor every week.
