It served as quite a challenge. When Pickles Auctions Sydney needed to relocate over 300 vehicles of all shapes and sizes just 10 kilometres across the city to a new site, they had one major constraint: it needed to happen fast and with minimal disruption to business operations.
The challenge saw Truck Moves Australia receive a short-notice request from the auction company to relocate their entire vehicle inventory, including more than 300 trucks, trailers and specialty vehicles, to a new location 10 kilometres away.
Within days, Truck Moves Australia deployed a fleet of shuttle buses with dedicated drivers and experienced drivers to tackle this logistical challenge head-on.
“The strategy was elegant in its simplicity: use shuttle services to transport drivers to and from vehicle pickup points, maximising efficiency and minimising downtime,” Truck Moves Australia managing director Matt Whitnall told OwnerDriver.
Over three days of intensive operations, six shuttle buses worked in continuous rotation, with onsite operations managers and leading hands coordinating drivers to ensure 100 moves per day were completed.
“We really love this sort of challenge, when the customer is relying heavily on us to keep their business moving, and we step in,” Whitnall says.

“The operation required precise coordination between shuttle schedules, driver availability and vehicle prioritisation.
“All our drivers and shuttles are GPS tracked and utilise our internally developed technology with sign on glass and real time digital vehicle reporting so we always have excellent vision over the project teams. In short, the customer simply could not have done it without us.”
By the end of the three-day operation, Truck Moves Australia and Pickles Auctions Sydney successfully relocated all of the vehicles without incident while maintaining Pickles’ operational timeline. It was a major demonstration of Truck Moves Australia’s capability to handle large-scale, time-sensitive logistics.
Key takeaways for the Truck Moves Australia team were about how shuttle-based driver transport can prove highly effective for large-scale vehicle relocations, with short-notice requests able to be accommodated with proper fleet management.
Whitnall says clear communication and coordination are essential for complex multi-day operations.
“This project showcased Truck Moves Australia’s ability to mobilise resources quickly and execute complex logistics operations under pressure,” he says.
“The success has led to more work from the client in other states where we have the same capabilities, and they recommend our service to buyers at auction to clear the yards.”
