Work is due to begin later this year on the construction of new overtaking lanes along the Bruce Highway in far north Queensland.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese says the new northbound and southbound overtaking lanes near Tully will provide further opportunities for motorists to pass slower moving vehicles safely.
The first pair is to be built south of Dundonald Creek. Work on them is expected to begin in July and be completed by the end of the year.
Construction companies interested in installing the lanes have until May 14 to submit their best bids under the tender process being managed by the Queensland Government.
The contract for the second set of new lanes to be located between Broderick Road and Feluga will be awarded later this year. Construction will start in September.
Motorists using this stretch of highway around Tully are being told to expect minor delays while both projects are being delivered.
“These fully-federally funded projects are the latest addition to our unprecedented 10-year capital works program which is now underway along the entire length of the highway,” Albanese says.
“Since coming to office, we have committed $5.7 billion to upgrading the Bruce Highway.”
