The upcoming Nhill Trailer Exchange is set to offer more for heavy vehicle operators, with the Horsham Rural City Council partnering with a group of organisations to deliver the two-day event later this month.
Held on November 26 and 27, the event will allow heavy vehicle owners and drivers to drop in and hear from industry experts, where multiple road safety displays and presentations will be available.
After originally being scheduled for February this year, devastating fires in the Grampians region meant Victoria Police and other agency resources were taken away from the event, with the Western Highway also being temporarily closed due to the fires.
Now, the delayed event will address the themes of vehicle safety, roadworthiness, overloading, towing, fatigue, speed and other road safety issues.

Both Victoria Police and National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) representatives will be present at the exchange to provide information and education rather than enforcement.
CEO Craig Niemann says the heavy vehicle safety event will also include feature practical displays, demonstrations and presentations.
“The aim is to give the heavy vehicle industry a chance to find out the latest tips to improve their road safety,” Niemann says.
“The Western Highway is one of the nation’s key interstate freight routes, and unfortunately it is over-represented in fatalities and serious injuries, so we are keen to do everything we can to help reduce the occurrence of these incidents.
“The event is also very relevant to local transport operators, including farmers and livestock transporters, and we thank the Department of Transport and Planning, which has funded this event through its Community Road Safety Grants.”
Other participants at the event include the Livestock and Rural Transport Association of Victoria, WorkSafe and other local municipalities, including the host Hindmarsh Shire Council.
The event will run from 4pm to 11pm on both days, with drivers and operators invited to attend the event based on their availability.
