Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has announced pavement strengthening works will begin on the Bruce Highway this weekend, reducing traffic to single lane.
Starting on Sunday January 18, the works will get underway on the highway around the Mill Road intersection in Edmonton, with works expected to be completed in mid-March.
The works are part of the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program that is funded on an 80:20 basis by the federal and Queensland governments to address community feedback on the Bruce Highway’s condition.
The works will be carried out at night, with crews onsite between 6pm and 6am, while no works will be carried out from January 23 to January 26 due to the Australia Day weekend.

The pavement strengthening works will provide safety benefits such as increased driver comfort, enhanced skid resistance and improved vehicle stability.
It’ll involve removing the existing surface and applying strengthening treatments, followed by applying a waterproof high-strength seal to improve surface drainage and pavement strength.
Changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions and single lane operations, with Variable Message Signs, or VMS, in place.
