NSW council earns funding for Moss Vale Bypass

Funding

New South Wales’ Wingecarribee Shire Council has been awarded $10.8 million by the state government to conduct studies, plan work and finalise a business case for the construction of a future Moss Vale Bypass.

Over $14 million was initially promised to the project in 2019, however only $3.5 million was awarded since the promise was made.

The council has stated a bypass would:

  • Provide an alternative route across the Main Southern Railway Line, eliminating height restrictions and flooding concerns.
  • Reduce congestion on Argyle Street during peak periods.
  • Support the future growth of Moss Vale.

The newly awarded funds ensure the initially promised $14.3 million for the project has now been received in full.

Wingecarribee Shire Council Director of Service and Project Delivery Karin Targa says the funding will also contribute to early construction should the project be approved.

“The funding secured through successful negotiations with Transport for NSW will allow Council to incorporate innovate elements into the design,” Targa says.

“Upon completion of the design and confirmation of a favourable cost-benefit ratio, together with a robust business case, the funding will support early-stage construction works.

Moss Vale is located a two-hour drive from Canberra, and less than 10km from Bowral.
