Penske Australia has issued a recall for three of its major Western Star models due to a software problem.
The recall says 365 units of the Western Star 47X, 48X and 49X are impacted for variants within 2022 to 2023.

Due to a software issue, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may not illuminate and alert the driver of a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) efficiency emission related issue.
While there is no safety or performance hazard with this, it does mean the vehicles may not be compliant with Australian Design Rule 80/03 relating to emission control for heavy vehicles.
Penske Australia is asking the owners of all affected vehicles to contact their Western Star dealer to have the software updated free of charge.
