Kenworth unveils 40,000th Australian-designed truck

Kenworth says the 40,000th Australian-designed and manufactured truck is now on the road, working as part of the Kalari Transport fleet.

The T608, rolled off the Bayswater, Melbourne production line of Kenworth, is rated to a GCM of 97 tonnes. The truck is powered by a Cummins Signature engine, producing 580 hp and 1850 lb/ft of torque. It features an 18-speed Fuller RTLO20918B manual transmission, Meritor RT46-160 rear axles, Kenworth Airglide 460 suspension as well as a 36-inch integrated sleeper.

The Kenworth brand in Australia dates back to 1962, and Kenworth trucks have been manufactured here since 1971.

In 1974, the company achieved its first production milestone,delivering its 1000th truck in Australia, then 14 years later achieved its next landmark with the 10,000th truck in 1988, with another 13 years needed to roll out the 20,000th truck in 2001.

Since then, production has increased dramatically, the 30,000th truck was delivered only four years later in September 2005.
