Tata debuts Indian truck range

Indian manufacturing giant Tata launches a range of trucks capable of meeting various operator demands

Indian manufacturing giant Tata has taken its first steps into the heavy vehicle market, launching a range of trucks capable of meeting various operator demands.

Tata Motors chairman Ratan Tata says improvements to transport infrastructure make it possible to use trucks with higher power, speed and carrying capacity, while the trucks are specified to be competitive in other markets.

Tata’s range includes a variety of truck types, including prime movers, rigids, tippers and cement agitators.

Exhaust emissions are a key component , with the new trucks all complying with both Euro 3 and Euro 4 standards, while also meeting requirements for Euro 5, although they are not certified at this level.

Tata says designers looked closely at areas such as driver safety and comfort, standard features include reclining seats, adjustable steering wheel, seat belts and arm rests.

The Tata Motors European Technical Centre in the UK was also heavily involved in the design and layout of the trucks, which range in power from 150 horsepower to 560 horsepower, while the transmission options include manuals, automatics and automated manuals, with GCWs ranging from 10 tonnes to 75 tonnes.
