Isuzu navigates market with GPS as standard

New Isuzus feature touchscreen with on-board navigation as standard across the manufacturer's range

Truck operators facing continuous urban sprawl are the big winners from Isuzu Australia’s latest upgrades, the manufacturer says, with a 13cm touchscreen audio visual (TAV) unit with on-board navigation now standard across the truck range.

The Bluetooth-equipped TAV is similar in appearance to the previous multimedia system but now incorporates touch-screen technology, with intuitive on-screen menus.

The new unit also features in-out slots for an SD card for mapping or media files, as well as USB and auxiliary inputs for MP3 players.

Navigation system hardware and software are included in the base unit, with Navteq mapping from the previous unit now programmed by iGO, the leader in navigation system programming.

Mapping includes Isuzu dealerships as points of interest, ‘Roadsense’ for fixed speed and red light cameras, school zones and accident black spots, as well as off-road tracks and 3D images of Sydney and Melbourne landmarks.

In a second planned upgrade, truck routes, bridge heights, truck stops and more will be released toward the end of 2009.

Operators can also view up to three optional, external cameras using infrared technology, with one camera also able to transmit sound, for safer reversing and negotiating tight spots.

Under the skin, there is a new MZW-6P transmission in both manual and AMT forms for FH models using either the MXZ or MLD units, with 250Nm continuous torque available through its PTO port, a boon for operators needing drive power for auxiliary equipment.
