Still on top, with emissions key for Isuzu

Isuzu will leverage gas-powered trucks to maintain stranglehold on the Australian sales market

Isuzu will leverage its gas-powered trucks to maintain its stranglehold on the Australian sales market in 2010, the manufacturer says.

Isuzu is trumpeting its 21st consecutive year of sales supremacy, finishing on top of the manufacturer’s ladder with 7,480 units delivered last year.

Chief Operating Officer Phil Taylor says the environment will be a key focus this year, led by its compressed natural gas, or CNG, vehicles.

“With a choice of four factory-backed CNG-powered trucks now on offer, combined with the superior environmental performance of our traditional diesel models, Isuzu Trucks is working hard to minimise the environmental impact of its vehicles,” Taylor says.

“Our company is not only focused on being a market leader on the sales chart, but also in the area of innovation, emissions and customer service.”

The Australian truck market lost a quarter of its sales in 2009, but Isuzu managed to increase its market share from 29 percent to 31 percent.

The N Series models dominated the light market with a more than 40 percent market share, some 1,647 trucks ahead of its nearest competitor.

Taylorb says it’s a pleasing result.

“Despite a fall in overall sales volume, securing a total market share of almost 31 percent is a satisfying effort in the face of difficult economic conditions,” he says.

“It means that approximately one in three new trucks sold in Australia in 2009 was an Isuzu. We thank all our loyal customers for their continued support throughout last year.”
