Trailer immobiliser stops thieves in their tracks

Operators worried about having their trailers stolen now have greater protection against thieves.

WABCO has released a trailer immobiliser as part of its trailer electronic braking system.

By entering a pin code on the trailer’s control box in the cab of the truck, the driver is able to lock the trailer wheels.

This stops unauthorised use or movement of the trailer, as well as providing extra safety for trailers parked on sloping ground.

WABCO says the pin system is the first of its type available commercially and is offered on the E1.5 version of the company’s Trailer EBS E generation system.

WABCO Vice President Nick Rens sys trailer thefts have nearly doubled year on year.

He says the new system will help cut business costs that balloon due to stolen vehicles, cargo theft or damage caused due to unauthorised people using trailers.

Rens says the company’s trailers continues to feature previously released roll stability support and an operating data recorder that registers the trailer’s technical data much like an airplane’s black box.

The trailer also has optional features dealing with loads, turning and preventing bounce.
