Recall for trailer tarps

Roll Rite recalls electric tarp system over concerns a defect might cause injury or death

June 25, 2010

Roll Rite LLC is recalling electric tarp systems to check for a potential safety hazard in the electrical solid state relay.

The relay went on sale on December 22, 2008 and may have been sold as part of electronic control kits for existing electric tarp systems.

It was sold from March 3, 2009 as part of kits and systems with solid state relays.

The problem concerns what is described as “improper wiring during installation of the relay”, “or a subsequent short circuit in the system may cause the relay to overheat”.

As a result, Roll Rite says the defect might cause a vehicle to catch fire, leading to injury or death.

Roll Rite will provide a replacement manual reset circuit breaker for undamaged solid state relays.

Damaged relays will be replaced with a solid state relay with a 30amp manual reset circuit breaker or a replacement mechanical relay with a 40amp modified circuit breaker.
