Two security IT offerings hit market

Intermeq and Directed Electronics hail services for tracking mobile technology and vehicles

June 28, 2011

The transport and logistics industry has been favoured two security IT developments this month.

US firm Intermec Technologies yesterday launched its INcontrol device management software on to the Australian market.

The software aims to track mobile technology assets, such as handheld computers used in trucking and distribution.

The company says the platform will help avoid downtime by allowing supply-chain managers to examine the current state, location and utilisation of mobile computers and networks.

INcontrol also aims to protect business data, which can be remotely wiped if lost or if they have not checked into the network within a specified period of time.

“Protecting business networks and device investments is fundamental in managing IT and operational costs, along with greater visibility and having remote control over the investments,’ Tony Repaci, Intermec’s General Manager of Australia and New Zealand, says.

Meanwhile, Directed Electronics Australia is spruiking its Gridtraq vehicle tracking and fleet management offering that it launched earlier in the month.

“Some of our devices are deployed in remote and rural locations where the reach and coverage of the 3G Network was a critical factor in us moving to the Telstra M2M platform,” Directed Electronics Business Development Manager Dylan Hartley says.

“We trialled the Telstra M2M Control Centre extensively, with customers and at our in-house R&D facility and we believe the flexibility and high degree of control that the Telstra M2M platform offers enhances our Gridtraq solution further differentiating our product within the market.”

The service uses machine-to-machine technology covering areas from account management to warehousing, dispatch and logistics, the company says.

“Some of the telematic solutions for our customers are self contained, towable on-site caravans where the Gridtraq solution monitors a range of inputs and sends out an alert via an SMS, email or onscreen alerts when a sewerage tank needs to be drained or a generator needs re-fuelling,” according to Hartley.

“Our vehicle tracking and fleet management solutions extend beyond increasing vehicle efficiencies and utilisation, where we have solutions installed in heavy machinery providing an alert in the event of theft, unauthorised or unsafe use.”
