Mack to apply road safety advantage technology across all models

Mack Trucks’ patented technology to prevent rollovers will be available across the manufacturer’s entire line-up by the end of the year.

Mack’s road safety advantage (RSA) system uses sensors to improve vehicle stability and works by automatically applying brakes if the vehicle makes a sharp turn, changes lanes suddenly or comes across a slippery surface.

The RSA system is particularly relevant to concrete trucks which, due to the relatively high centre of gravity and dynamic load, are more susceptible to rollovers.

“There was a great need in the market to find a solution to the dangers associated with concrete trucks and we rose to the challenge,” Mack Trucks Sales Vice President Dean Bestwick says.

Boral made use of the RSA technology in its new Mack concrete trucks and was subsequently named as one of three finalists at the 2013 WorkCover NSW SafeWork Awards for ‘Best solution to an identified workplace health and safety issue’.

“The concrete industry is committed to improving safety and the RSA has helped to reduce workplace hazards,” Boral Fleet Manager Adam Tointon says.

“RSA is now a standard specification in all new concrete trucks. Since this introduction there has been a significant reduction in truck related accidents, such as trucks tipping and collisions,” Tointon adds.
