Freightliner celebrates 25 years in Australia

American brand marks the milestone with a limited edition Coronado 114.

Freightliner has built 25 limited edition Coronado 114 bonneted prime movers to mark 25 years in Australia.

The trucks were launched in Melbourne on the eve of the International Truck Trailer and Equipment Show (ITTES).

The event was held almost 25 years to the day since the first Freightliner for the Australian market rolled off the production line at Musgrave in Melbourne – a heavy duty FLC112.

Freightliner, now the biggest selling heavy duty truck in the United States, was born in the US in the 1940s, with truck driver founder Leyland James pioneering aluminium cab-overs.

“We are delighted to be celebrating 25 years of Freightliner in Australia with our customers and the trucking industry as a whole,” Freightliner General Manager Kristi Walker says.

“Each member of the Freightliner team, past and present, should feel a great sense of pride that they have contributed to Freightliner reaching this milestone. “

Between the original FLC112 and the short-bonnet Coronado 114, built specifically for the Australian market and launched in 2012, are several major models including the FL112 in 1996; FLB cab-over (1998); Century class (1999); cab-over Argosy (2000); Columbia (2004); long-bonnet Coronado 122 (2010); and the new-generation Argosy (2011).

The 25 special edition Coronado 114s – all of them bright silver – are available now. A 560hp (411kW) Detroit Diesel engine and an 18-speed Roadranger gearbox power the trucks.

Each truck has a number of hand crafted enhancements including stitching on the seats and door trims. Interior touches also include a Sealy mattress and draw fridge.

Special features on the outside include a Texas bumper bar with integrated great white LED driving lights and lots of stainless steel – including bug deflector, under cab dress kit, side wing extensions, mud guards and rear tail light bar with LED lights.
