Scania P-Series truck gets five tonne payload increase

Scania makes the switch from a 6x2 to 8x2 configuration.

Scania is now offering P-series 8×2 twin steer curtainsider models with a 13.9 tonne payload, allowing it to haul five tonnes more than the same 9.1m body fitted to a 6×2 heavy vehicle.

According to the Scandinavian truck maker, the rigid twin steer variants have space for 14 pallets and a pallet jack and remove worries of front axle overloading and load imbalances.

“Our Scania P-series 8×2 twin steer curtainsider project’s focus was on improving productivity for distribution operators,” Scania national sales manager Dean Dal Santo says.

“The twin steer configuration means operators need not be so concerned about loading profiles or diminishing load issues putting too much weight over the front axle.

“This allows for faster loading and unloading, meaning more deliveries are possible per day, earning the operator greater income.”

Scania’s on-board scales are included, the company says, providing the in-cab dashboard with a digital weight reading for each of the four axles.

Anticipating demand, the truck maker is pre-building supplies of the P 310 twin steer model with the GTB curtainsider body and is offering customers with the option of a D’Hollandia tail-lift pack.

“We have known for some time that the 8×2 twin steer offering was very well suited to metropolitan and regional distribution work, and now with the ready-built curtainsider body and the tail-lift, we can provide a total solution,” Dal Santo says.

“In addition to our curtainsider body we can also provide refrigerated bodies which are ideal for transport of perishables.”

The P 310 features a Euro 5, 310hp (231kW) five-cylinder engine using selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and ships with a fully-automated Opticruise transmission.

Scania says ex-stock 6×2 models with the same GTB body are available and the 8×2 configuration will be available via the Scania Truck Rental fleet.
