Two Australian teams going to Volvo mechanics finals

Volvo Group Australia has confirmed two teams from Australia will be among 32 finalists heading to Sweden for the service competition

Two Australian teams have won through to compete in the Volvo International Service Training Award (VISTA) finals competition taking place next week in Sweden.

Held in Gothenburg from May 31 to June 1, the global competition pits 32 teams of mechanics against each other in a series of knowledge-based and physical tests.

Representing Australia in the global finals are the VCV Townsville Barras and the VCV Sydney Chullora Blues, who each won their way through the national competition.

Getting through the local rounds required the two teams to complete three sessions of theoretical questions and be among the best teams from a regional semi-final competition.

“I am so proud of the men and women who make up the Townsville ‘Barras’ and Chullora ‘Blues’ for representing Australia in the VISTA global final,” Volvo Group Australia president Peter Voorhoeve says.

“These technicians and workshop personnel provide world-class customer service day-in, day-out.

“For these teams to be recognised on a world stage is fantastic.”

Representing the chain of workshop personnel, VISTA requires each team to accommodate skills from customer receptionists, parts personnel, technicians, and mechanics.

Since its origins in Sweden in 1957, the competition now brings together over 18,000 participants from 96 countries.

The competition forms part of an employee’s annual training, Volvo says, as “a complement to the company’s internal training programmes.”

“In order to ensure that all Volvo workshops the world over maintain the highest quality, there are unique training courses for Volvo mechanics at all levels, each tailored to the unique preconditions of each individual market.

“In addition, all mechanics are tested continuously and undergo further training if any gaps are discovered in their expertise.

“The primary goal of VISTA is to develop and improve the employees’ knowhow and skills, enhance their ability to work in groups, and further raise the quality of the work carried out.

“Ultimately, VISTA leads to better customer service and increased customer satisfaction.”

The competition begins on Tuesday.
