Mack donation boosts workshop techs future

Volvo Group Australia is supporting future generations of workshop technicians through a generous Mack Granite donation.

Volvo Group Australia (VGA) has donated a Mack Granite cab-chassis to TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, to be used as a training tool for the future generation of heavy-vehicle workshop technicians.

Mary Campbell, general manager of TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, thanked VGA president Peter Voorhoeve for the generous donation and stressed how crucial donations, such as the Mack Granite, are to the future of the industry.

“Volvo Group Australia’s generous donation of this truck enables SkillsTech to provide the best possible training for our apprentices,” Campbell says.

“On behalf of TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, I would like to thank Volvo Group Australia for investing in the future of the heavy vehicle industry, and I’m confident our apprentices will make great employees, thanks to your support.”

During the handover, Voorhoeve had the opportunity to address a small group of first-year apprentices, including Ryan Stewart from VCV Brisbane North, where he stressed the importance of a good foundation education.

“Technology will move fast from now on,” Voorhoeve says “Technology is constantly evolving but a good understanding of how all the components of a truck work together is critical.

“You have made the first steps into an exciting and thriving industry, and I look forward to seeing many of you working in our workshops in years to come.”

“It gives me great pride to donate this truck to SkillsTech.

“We have a long history of cooperation with SkillsTech, but to provide a truck that they can use to train the future generations of workshop technicians means great things for our industry as a whole.”

“I firmly believe that customer satisfaction is key to market leadership,” Voorhoeve continues, “and in order to provide world-class service to our customers, we need world-class technicians.

“As leaders of the Australian heavy-duty market, I feel Volvo Group Australia has an obligation to support the future generations of technicians so we can continue to provide world-class service.”
