Freightliner recall over potential power loss

Vehicles could go into auto-reset mode, causing unexpected power loss, the ACCC says

Up to 4,000 vehicles have been recalled due to an electrical fault that could cause them to lose power unexpectedly, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced.

Some Freightliner trucks in the Argosy, Columbia and Coronado range sold between June 2010 and August 2017 are subject to the recall, announced by the ACCC last week.

A list of the vehicle identification numbers of the affected vehicles has been published by the ACCC and is available on the recall website here.

The ACCC says the defect came down to the PowerNet Distribution Box (PNDB) module in certain vehicles, which could go into auto-reset mode under certain environmental conditions.

“Affected vehicles may unexpectedly lose power in the cab, chassis and engine, causing potential engine shutdown and temporary loss of all lighting and cab electronics, increasing the risk of an accident for the occupants and other road users,” the ACCC says.

Owners of affected vehicles are asked to call 1300 323 722 to make a booking with a Daimler Truck & Bus Freightliner dealership to have a new PNDB installed, without the auto-reset software, free of charge.
